I feel it in my own body first ~ the hollowing. The way something pulls away from itself until a gap opens. At first it’s a thin line I can still step across. Then it widens, canyon-like, until I know if I try to leap it, I’ll be swallowed.

This is how friendships end. This is how families fracture. And I see now, this is how nations unravel.

The United States loves to stare outward, pointing to other countries and their ruins, saying look how they are destroying themselves. But we rarely point the mirror back. We don’t say: Look how we are destroying our own.

The gaps are here:

We keep exporting destruction abroad, but we won’t name the implosion at home.

Like a body that ignores its pain signals, we risk collapse. The hollowness is spreading. And yet, like the body, we also hold the possibility of healing. To close the gap requires honesty first ~ to stop pretending the fracture isn’t there. To root back into what is real. We can do it. I believe in us.
